Area 2
Geographically, the Pennine area covers the major conurbations of Huddersfield, Halifax, and Brighouse.
The Lodges extend from Todmorden and Uppermill in the West, Hipperholme on the Northern boundary, Brighouse in the East and Holmfirth to the South.
There are 37 Lodges, with a membership of over 1200 Masons. Two of these, The Rugby Football Lodge and the Sub Aqua Lodge, feature members who have special social interests associated with the name of their Lodge.
Details of all the Lodges, time, date and meeting place are found by clicking on to the relevant link.
Industrially and socially the area is extremely diverse and has undergone many changes since the demise of the textile industry, coupled with a decline in the engineering and chemical sectors.
The area has adapted very well to these changes and also to the challenges they have created and many new industries are now well established in what is very much a multi cultural society, embracing people of all faiths, as does Freemasonry.
We are very proud of the number of local choirs and brass bands in the region, many of which perform to an extremely high standard. Included in these are two internationally renowned choirs, The Huddersfield Choral Society, which will shortly celebrate its 175th anniversary, The Halifax Choral Society, founded in 1817, the oldest such society in the world and the world famous Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band.
Huddersfield is also the home of a modern, successful and innovative University, which has seven academic schools offering the complete spectrum of Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Part-Time courses.
Included in the many other attractions in the area are theatres, stately homes, historical sites, museums, gardens, and parks.
The Halifax and Huddersfield areas boast popular sporting links, with amateur cricket, football and crown green bowling complementing the professional football and rugby league clubs in both towns.
