Teddies for Loving Care (TLC) Initiative

The simple objective is for Freemasons to provide teddy bears and soft toys to Accident and Emergency units, for the medical staff, to give, at their discretion, to children admitted who are in severe distress and where the staff feel that a teddy or soft toy to cuddle will help alleviate the stress and assist them in their work.

The scheme was initially introduced into the Sheffield Childrens Hospital by W. Bro. Peter Taylor, who made all the original arrangements for introducing the teddies there. Thanks to his personal efforts the scheme proved to be a great success at the hospital.

When the Provincial Grand Master gives his ‘seal of approval’ to a worthy cause it cannot be said that he ‘lets the grass grown beneath his feet’ in this short period of time the TLC scheme is in place at the locations listed below.

This project in Yorkshire, West Riding is funded entirely by the Freemasons of the Province.

Do the children keep the teddy?

Yes, they take the teddy home. (complete with any sticking plasters, plaster casts or injections!)

…. and finally the two teams that made it happen – the freemasons of Yorkshire, West Riding and representatives of the Bradford Royal Infirmary.
