Final Festival Fling ‘Come Dance the Night Away’ – A Great Success!

The Area 3 Final Festival Fling ‘Come Dance the Night Away’ event held on Saturday 8th April at the Harrogate Masonic Hall raised a fantastic £710.20 in aid of the 2017 RMBI Festival. Over 100 brethren, family and friends attended the evening and thoroughly enjoyed being shown the intricacies of Salsa & Tango dancing as demonstrated and then instructed by Caroline, Gita and Richard. Similar demonstrations and instruction were given by U3A tutors Don & Janine Mason with up to 80 people on the dance floor at one time!

Bob Naylor of Horsford Lodge No 5339 together with fellow guitarist Malcolm form “Foot Tapper” who played 60’s and 70’s music, which for many turned the clock back too many years to remember. Bob was also kind enough to allow the other musicians the use of his sound equipment including the music for Amy Walker aged just 14 who gave an improvised/contemporary solo dance routine to a silent and mesmerized audience. Amy is the granddaughter of W Bro Bryan Walker, Almoner of The Spa Lodge No 7609 who was rightly moved to tears.

A mid interval hot snack of stuffed mini Yorkshire Puddings went down well as did a novel fund raising game that raised £275.00 (incl in total above). Towards the end of the evening Glitterball Awards were presented to three deserving couples, together with suitable acknowledgement being made to those who had given freely of their time in aid of what turned out to be a sell-out event.
