SEVENTY Freemasons, family and friends including seven dogs, completed a Towpath Trek in the Colne Valley and raised £2510 to be shared between the Province’s 2017 RMBI Festival and The Haven, a charity based in Leeds which supports people affected by Breast Cancer.

The weather on Sunday, 31 July, favoured the event and the first group of walkers left Colne Valley Masonic Hall at 10am, and they were followed by a steady stream of participants which included  APGM for Area 2  John B Gledhill, accompanied by members of his family.

The walk totals approximately five miles, along the canal Towpath to Marsden, and back, passing through glimpses of our industrial heritage and super views of the Upper Colne Valley. Some of the walkers favoured the local hostelries and cafes in Marsden whilst others spent the afternoon on their return seeking refreshment in the sunshine back in Slaithwaite.

All who took part agreed it had been a splendid day and agreed it was a pleasant and relaxing way to raise money for both the 2017 Festival  and The Haven.

Organisers Raymond Lodge and Area Two charity chairman Alan Elstone (and their wives, Janice and Pam) thank all who supported the event, both walkers and those who made donations in sponsorship.

They orchestrated a similar event last year which raised just over £2000 and which was split between the Festival and Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
