New Assistant Provincial Grand Master Appointed

Roger David Newhouse PAGDC has been appointed to succeed Donald Stuart Cummins as Assistant PGM for Area 1 in the Province.
The R W Provincial Grand Master, David S Pratt, will Install W Bro Newhouse at a ceremony in his own Lodge, Craven Lodge No 810 at the Masonic Hall, Hoyle Court, Baildon, on 6 January next year.

In announcing the appointment, R W Bro Pratt was warm in his praise and thanks to W Bro Cummins who retires on 31 December after serving the Province as APGM in a diligent and exemplary manner for five years.

Roger Newhouse has enjoyed a busy and fulfilling Masonic career since his Initiation into Craven Lodge in September 1982; he was a Lewis and his father, Peter, was Junior Deacon at his Initiation. Roger served as Master in 1995, a year before his father passed away. He was Master of West Riding Acting Officers Lodge No 9645 in 2007.

His first Provincial Rank was Acting Pursuivant in 2002 and he was subsequently promoted to PPSGW in 2004. Having been appointed Liaison Officer to Royal Forest Lodge No 401 and Mawsis Lodge No 4644 in that year, he has retained the position with Royal Forest and taken a similar role with Wenning Lodge No 4496.

He received Grand Rank as Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies in 2008.

Roger has been a member of the Provincial Communications Committee since 2006 and since the launch of ‘Teddies for Loving Care’ in 2008, has been the representative to the Airedale General Hospital.

He has served as a director of West Riding Masonic Charities Ltd for four years and is now chairman.

Roger has been a Chapter Mason since 1986 when he was Exalted into Craven Chapter No 810, serving as First Principal in 2001. In Provincial Grand Chapter he was appointed Senior Assistant Sojourner, then Scribe Nehemiah and now holds the Rank of PPGSN.

Roger is well known for his skill and ability on the organ; he started learning to play the piano when just six years of age and progressed to the 3 manual pipe organ whilst at school. In Craven Lodge, he was playing the organ as soon as he had progressed through the three degrees and, since coming out of the Chair, has done so since.

Born in Skipton, Roger was educated at Ermysted’s Grammar School. He started work in 1974 as a Management Trainee with Seed Ford, Ford Main Dealers in Colne, before taking a position as Sales Manager with E S Hartley Ltd (Volvo) in Skipton. Since 1991 he has been an Independent and passionate Volvo Specialist at the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales. He has been married to Fiona for 35 years and is a very proud father of Victoria.
