Haworth Bandstand opened by The Lord Mayor Of Bradford

The weather could not have been better! Warm sunshine greeted the Official Party of the Lord Mayor of Bradford and the Lady Mayoress, Cllr Mike Gibbons and Mrs Gibbons, and members of the local and District Councils for the long awaited official opening of the newly refurbished Bandstand in Haworth’s Central Park on Sunday 22nd June 2014.

Also invited was W Bro Roger D Newhouse, Chairman of West Riding Masonic Charities Ltd, in recognition of the  donation from the Provincial Grand Master’s Fund that had been given to the Lord Mayor’s Appeal which was used to help with the Band stand’s refurbishment. The total cost of the refurbishment was £76,000.

It was a typical summer afternoon in the Park. Families enjoying picnics, children running around and after the official opening by The Lord Mayor, the Haworth Band gave a superb concert which was thoroughly entertaining.

The new Bandstand is open at the front so that it can be used by many other groups and is at ground level making it wheelchair friendly.

Freemasonry continues to play a major part in many local communities helping initiatives such as this, and the new PGM Fund shields are starting to appear around the Province to show how many varied and useful projects are benefitting from their Grants.
