Record attendance at WRMCL AGM

Following a joint initiative from Provincial Grand Lodge and West Riding Masonic Charities Ltd to encourage at least 2 brethren from each Lodge in the Province to attend the AGM, just under 300 brethren attended the Annual General Meeting at the Holiday Inn, Barnsley on Saturday 29th March 2014.

It was decided to change the venue to give easier access for brethren from the south of the Province, and to limit it to a morning meeting, thereby leaving Saturday afternoon free. We will be considering other venues for next year ,but after the feedback we have received so far about the Holiday Inn, we may stay there for one more year……..we’ll see.

Almost 100 brethren stayed to the informal buffet at 12.00 noon which was a great chance for people to sit and chat to old friends, and to become acquainted with many new ones.

As the business meeting finished earlier than originally planned at around 11.40am , the Revolution Show Corps Band of the Queensbury Scouts gave a very impressive display of marching and music outside prior to, rather than during lunch.

Their Corps Director , Mr Oliver Richardson addressed the meeting earlier to tell brethren how the Major grant of £20,000 from the PGM’s Fund had made such a dramatic difference to their organisation.

It was brilliant to see the faces on the members of the Band, obviously getting a tremendous amount of pleasure and pride whilst playing their instruments, particularly the younger members playing the instruments that we provided.

Mrs Nicola Massen ,Regional Fundraiser for South and West Yorkshire for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance also gave a very informative and interesting 10 minute talk about the difference that the Masonic Grants makes to the operation of the 2 YAA Helicopters.
A dramatic 2 minute DVD showing the helicopters in flight and in action was shown, sadly the screen was not in the best position to be seen by everyone there so he DVD was constantly repeated over lunch which enabled anyone that couldn’t see it earlier had chance to view it at their leisure.

The Ballot for 2 Directors resulted in the election of VW Bro Jack Pigott and the re-election of W Bro John Sawdon to the Board for a period of 3 years.

We would welcome any feedback (good and bad) about the AGM so that we can plan for the next one and change things that need to be changed and retain the things that worked well.
