Friends at War – the Fraternity from the War of Independence to the American Civil War
at Castle Grove Masonic Hall on Thursday 26th May 2011, 5.30pm
The American Civil War pitted brother against brother. This paper takes an overview of the development of Freemasonry and social order within the Union following Independence. How Freemasonry expanded in parallel with the development of the Union. Why the division between the newly industrialised North and the continuation of slave based agriculture in the south grew, leading to Secession, Civil War and the dilemmas faced by the fraternity.
ALL Masons are very welcome to attend – the Leeds and District Lodge of Installed Masters will be delighted to offer a warm welcome to all those who wish to hear W Bro Landy’s fascinating lecture.
