The temple at Castle Grove Masonic Hall was filled to capacity and witnessed W Bro David Pratt enter the lodge with his escort to the strains of the traditional Welsh song ‘Mae hen wlad fy nhadau yn annwyl i mi’ – (Oh land of my fathers, oh dear land to me) – ever proud of his Welsh origins. He has however lived in, worked in, married a Yorkshire wife and given a great deal over the past 20 years to this great Province of Yorkshire, West Riding.

All the Rulers were present with the exeption of W Bro Colin Dent PSGD APGM who was on a skiing holiday. (had he known of our weather pehaps he would have settled for Ainley Top!)

W. Bro Pratt and all the members and guests of Defence lodge enjoyed a ‘buzzing’ Festive Board in the full Ballroom at Castle Grove with traditional Yorkshire roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. There were brethren from all over the land – W. Bro. Pratt’s brother, Christopher, had travelled from Wales to be with him on his special evening, and he responded to the toast to the visitors elequently and as only older brothers can.

I am sure that all the Province will join me in wishing W Bro Pratt the health and wisdom to fulfill the demands of his high office.

Blenheim Bears have TLC

The meeting of Scarborough Lodge on the 17th November witnessed the initiation of Bro Nick Batty by his father W. Bro Jim Batty, Assistant Provincial Grand Master.  The Rt. W. Provincial Grand Master attended and was later presented with cheques totalling some £2500 for the Provincial TLC appeal.

This sum was raised by the Brethren from Trafalgar, Howley and Scarborough Lodges who with friends and family had raised sponsorship from a series of walks culminating in the Three Peaks Challenge on the 6th September.

That evening a giant teddy bear was raffled and whilst I will not say who won it, it is rumoured that the PGM was not alone as he travelled home.
